Tales From the Corporate Plantation: What Goes Around Will Come Around, Bitches…

So I got word last night from my good friend who still works for the company that fired me; that they canned the same lady who fired me. Up Yours Even though I am still unemployed behind this bullshit, I don’t find all of the joy in her being fired. Why??? I’ll call the lady who fired me Naïve Boss and the one behind the master plotting Sneaky Boss.

Naïve Boss was setup to fail from day one, it was discovered that she was hired by the owners directly and not Sneaky Boss. So Sneaky Boss was salty from jump. The only problem is they hired a weak manager to run a division, so therefore she would eventually fall on her ass. Myself, and my team under her began to loose all respect for her. She had no initiative, was afraid to voice her opinion and speak on our behalf, no problem solving skills, played the victim role, and wasn’t an overall team player. So naturally, I was on my platform of bumping her out of the way, since she was dead weight. In fact, I had this conversation with one of the owners on behalf of myself and our team.

I never mentioned firing her, but perhaps reassigning her to a less demanding role within the company. As Sneaking Boss and I began to bump heads, my focus became less of Naïve Boss and more watching Sneaky Boss. She was threatened when I broke from under her thumb. Sneaky Boss is cool with you until you cease to agree with her way of thinking. Not to mention when she found out I had that conversation with the owner behind her back. I didn’t do that to over step protocol, but I had that conversation with Sneaky Boss a few times and nothing was being done. Also, as a manager I wanted to establish a relationship with my main boss.

So while Naïve Boss got a dose of her own medicine, its Sneaky Boss that needs to be dethroned. She’s so insecure that she would rather fire any employee she feels is a threat rather than work as a team to build a solid organization. But this is what your get when you have a Director of Operation who has no formal education, doesn’t feel higher education is necessary, and her only relevant experience is being a shift manager of a local restaurant. You would trust this person’s experience and background to run your entire operation?

I ask would I (Ms. Black Woman) with the same resume as Sneaky Boss ever have such opportunity? Hell No!! After all, I am having hard time finding an adequate replacement and I have a freaking Business Degree with relevant experience. The shit is fucked up people. And many of my old white clients ask is racism still alive? I understand its 2008, but please believe all of America isn’t welcoming my kind to enter let alone make it easy to success on the Corporate Plantation. Which is why I’ve come to the conclusion that I will have to create my own opportunities.

“I have a dream… that one day this black woman will own and operate a successful enterprise. It will be an organization that consists of only the best and brightest team players (not slaves). You will be promoted and hired solely on your qualifications, hard work, and dedication. There will be no ego-tripping or hierarchy because we will all strive to make the team successful together. I believe without you there is no me. I also believe no team player should be forced to report to work at the crack of fucking dawn. We work at our own peak and most productive time of day around here. I have a fucking dream.”

that's the thing its all about just working for your self and building the new Essence for Feb has a good article on branching out and starting your own business...so i think that would be of some interest...

just keep your head up and keep on your grind...sometimes you gotta take a step back in order to move forward...i have TOTALLY been there...it'll happen

and YES racism is VERY much so still alive and even more deadlyif you ask me because of the fact that its NOT as blatent as it has been...its institutionalized with "good ol boy" clubs and "corporate" bs...its sneaky and lurks in the cuts and corners...
