Through Rain, Sleet, or Snow: You Better Have Your Ass Here!

I just love Corporate America and the whole “By Any Means Necessary” mentality. It’s another great day here in Dallas (being sarcastic of course). I woke up this morning to the sound of what I thought was rain, but it was freaking snow. I looked out of one of my windows and it looks like a scene out of someone’s winter wonderland.

Without hesitation I am NOT feeling the need to risk my life nor safety to come into work (truly it’s a no brainer). Well an hour after watching several news channels about this damn “winter storm” my district manager texted messages the managers asking them to come at 10:00am. At this point, I am wondering what she thinks will happened within the next two hours. The high is on 30 and there’s ice and snow on the roads.

The receptionists for the centers I manage called in to express their concern for the weather and refuse to come into work. My district manager then sends out another text asking people to come in at noon instead (again why the fuck am I being asked to come in). So my girls have refused due the road conditions. But I feel pressure to still come in because I am management. Well I say fuck you, and you better still pay me!

My thing is, it’s just as risky for me to drive on the road as anyone else (not to mention my commute is long in bad weather). I have a computer at home so why can’t I work at home and do the exact same shit I am doing now in the privacy of my own home.

Are we (companies) that heartless and cruel to say “to hell with your safety, I need you in the office”? If schools and government agency buildings are closed, why the hell are we not? And I can’t wait until my evening commute. It’s only supposed to get worst (more ice) especially since there is no sun and the high is freaking 30. Okay I am done with my rant.

I Love My Job! Thanks for caring so much about me!

Girl you are so speaking the truth here. I've made foolish attempts to get to work during inclement weather and now refuse to. I have leave and I'll use it if necessary because my life and my safety dictate logical thinking. The damn job aint going nowhere.
