Don't Call It A Come Back...

Things are looking up now. I accepted my job offer yesterday. This opportunity came out of nowhere. A friend emailed me out of the blue asking if I was still on the market and interested in interviewing with her company. And things worked out in my favor. So it took me approximately three months to bounce back from my minor setback and find a suitable job. I’ll admit that’s the hard part. I honestly had no motivation to work really. I didn’t want just any job, so I figured since my options were so narrow and few I would rather continue to collect unemployment.

So here I am back in the rat race chasing the cheese starting Monday. I am happy to be working back in my field and with a more stable company. I’m sure there are flaws like with any company. But at this point it’s about applying the insightful techniques I am learning in grad school into my profession. This time around I am also willing to muffle my entrepreneurial side and play to win this other game called Corporate America (for now).

On another note, I am also participating in a case study with the Texas Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital -. Several students within our MBA department will assist the hospital in addressing their business planning needs on a number of engaging consulting projects. The program will enable us to practice "servant leadership" and utilize our skills to give back to the community while learning about consulting in non-profit organizations.

My assigned group is working on a market analyst for fund-raising events. Specifically we’ll identify the target market in the city of Plano. One of the board members of the hospital’s neighbor owns a high-end outdoor shopping center and offered the center as a future venue for a fund raising event. So it’s our job to find out who lives there and what other organizations have held fundraising events there. We will also develop the theme for the event, which will occur in the summer of 2009. I am truly excited to be a part of this project and volunteer on behalf of such a great organization.
