I'm digging my white chocolate...

It’s funny how I met and start to “date” my first white man in Dallas, TX; a city and state that has an implied racially segregated way of living.

Mr. Godiva and I seem to be getting along pretty well (it’s only been a week and half). I saw him last night. There are a few social differences between us, like any interracial couple would experience. But I’ve always been an open minded individual, so I embrace the new/different. For starters our music taste is slightly different. For the first time in my life I’ve met someone who is a Grace Jones fan. He has three of her albums. He’s not too big on Rap music, where I enjoy good Hip Hop. He enjoys R&B; I was pleasantly surprise to find Chante Moore and Anita Baker in his collection.

Mr. Godiva is such a gentleman, and that in it self keeps me interested. I don’t care what color, race, creed, or religion you are; it’s imperative that a man treats me with the up most respect. The night before I left town for Christmas, we had a date. I met him at his place. He bought us dinner (even though I got there late evening due to my hair appointment). Before dinner he insisted on giving me my “token” Christmas gifts. He first handed me the card, and it had a very warm and touching note inside. He then handed me a beautifully wrapped Nordstrom box, which included an Escada perfume set. And finally the small Victoria Secret bag (we all know what you get from there). I was totally surprised by his thoughtfulness.

The day before he insisted on getting me something even if it was small, but this blew any and all expectations (I’ve only know him two days at this point). Not only were the gifts thoughtful, but the food was lovely. He went to several organic and specialty stores to make up the perfect meal. He even went back to the Spanish restaurant to buy some more of the cheese we enjoyed together. He also went back to the other restaurant where we had after dinner drinks, to get the recipe for those awesome candy apple martinis. I am a sucker for thought provoking gestures. So our next date is New Years Eve.

A lot of men neglect the romantic yet simple things that keep a woman happy. It’s not about being a trick or soft, it’s about treating a person the same way you expect to be treated…

DP- I haven’t lost all faith in black men, by no means!
But dating is a cold game. As I’ve gotten older my standards continue to rise and I have ZERO tolerance for all bullshit. Therefore, I have to open the opportunity to everyone in order to expand my choices.

But yes my brothers are a little on the lame side here (maybe geographic?)

The dating game is rough. Here in nyc it is almost impossible. Alot of men forget what it means to be a gentleman.
