I Believe in Change:

This weekend has served as my personal quest for inner change. I was indirectly inspired by Obama’s platform to change. Not only do I believe is his ability to bring change to America, but I believe its time for me to make a few changes in my life.

On Saturday after my class I attended a neighborhood house party for Barack Obama the purpose was to get people to vote early and learn more about his campaign. In the state of Texas we have what is known as the “Texas 2 Step” as it pertains to voting. Registered voters are able to vote during the early primaries (now until 2/29) and again in the caucus on March 4th. This is the first time I’ve ever personally became involved in any campaign behind the scenes. At the party there were about 50 supporters, and about 10 of those were black. I was actually the youngest in attendance.

After the party, I left reenergized and ready to make a difference not just for my country but also for myself. Its time to change a few of my bad habits and start paying more attention to the people I am attracting in my life. There’s nothing really dramatic that has occurred to spark my need for change; but I am bored with the level of mediocracy within the people I am meeting.

On Sunday I was invited to volunteer on behalf of Obama’s campaign. I wasn’t too sure what I was expected to do, especially with this being my first time. I had the option of participating in the phone banks (cold calling people), which I didn’t like. Or I could go door to door (wasn’t a fan of that either) but I did join two other people on the trip. It was actually a great experience. Not everyone was receptive to us, but it felt good to work on behalf of someone who doesn’t even know you exist. More importantly I did it to feed my own personal passions and not because of a class or some organization.

Here’s to change in my life...
