Money Ain't A Thang????

It amazes me when I look at the level of our (black folks) priorities when it comes to money. Have you ever paid attention to how your peers/friends spend their money? It's not something I started doing until this year. I don’t exactly take inventory of my friends’ or family members purchases. But I question what is considered a good investment/purchase?

This post was inspired by the fact that I now have access to board game I’ve wanted to play for quite sometimes. The name of this game is called CashFlow it was created by Robert Kiyosaki. This is the author of the bestseller Rich Dad, Poor Dad and many other financial literacy books.

Lately, I’ve made a conscious effort to become more aware of my financial health. Which drew me to the need of wanting to play this game. Well thanks to Mr. Godiva, I now have the liberty to play CashFlow 101 and 202 (he let me borrow them). This game is an excellent tool to teach anyone trying to truly get out of the rat race and understand the dynamics of money/investing.

So I asked several people if they’ve heard of the game and of course 80% didn’t know what I was talking about. They also thought the price tag on the game was pretty steep. But I then wonder how do we justify buying these items that have absolutely no real value. None of these items will put any money in your pockets or show you how to increase your net worth.

So why the hell would you spend $200.00 on a game teaching relevant real life lessons when you can go out and purchase the latest Nike or Coach shoe????

You hit the nail right on the head girl. People are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on something that gets dragged across the mud (shoes) but have no savings, no 401k, NO NOTHING! I don't get it and I honeslty have NEVER spent more than $60 on a pair of shoes, nor do I intend to.

Oh and don't get me started on those mind numbing video games.

Dumbest invention EVER.

something im am going to definitely look into...trying to get my $ right so i can purchase a condo or something myself...i can admit i do like nice things, shoes being one of them, HOWEVER, i DO first and foremost save and have invested in a 401k account...and am working on debt...but we definitely NEED to have these conversations in our community...let's get it together

You spoke the truth on this one. I don't see why folks spend thousands of dollars on a closet full of $500.00 shoes.
REmember how SJP could not afford a down payment for her apartment but she had 10,000 dollars worth of high end shoes.
